The pastel ice-cream colours remind me of some terraces in Bristol

Hi Knautia -- thanks for visiting here. It was my last day in London and it had been raining all morning. And suddenly the clouds cleared and the sun came out and here I was in front of these brightly colored houses.

I'm suprised that everybody who has a house in London dosn't paint it in bright colors (they do in San Francisco), but they don't. Large estates still own large parts of London and sometimes they insist on paint conformity (I think this is true of the Grosvenor Estate), but people stick to white anyway (maybe because that will make people think they are part of the Grosvenor estate. dunno.

There are places in London, in some of the conservation areas, where people are only allowed to paint their front doors in a limited range of 'approved' colours...

In Bristol, painting ones house acts a little like a virus - the same as putting up Xmas lights outside. It starts with one person, then maybe someone 3 doors down decides to join in, and within a couple of years it's de rigeur. There's a terrace on the train line where there's a house painted with sheep, one with a DNA spiral painted on it, and all sorts of superb colours. It's beautiful, and one day I'll take some photos....
